2012 Spring Beauty Trends

Here are just a few of the fabulous hair and makeup trends for Spring 2012. Enjoy!

Lashes of Luxury

Major mascara is an instant eye opener!  Attention to top and bottom lashes is a must!

Ombre Hair Continues

Ombre hair techniques are still going strong. The loosely curled ends accentuates the color. I’m waiting for a fresh twist!  Maybe pastel colors!

Pinned Bob

Since short hair is a huge trend right now, this is a good way to experiment without taking the plunge.  This technique works best with wavy tresses tucked loosely at the nape of the neck.

Matte Tangerine Queen Lips

Tangerine is Spring’s hottest color!  Tangerine looks good against a golden tan. Real or Fake! This color attracts lots of attention, so make sure your ready for it.  It looks best when paired with natural eyeshadow colors and a pinky coral cheek.

Hot Pink-Magenta Lips

Brave the newest selections of magenta and hot pink lips for this spring.  Skip the lipliner and apply bright pink lipstick with a lip brush.  Wear understated makeup and outfits. Try pairing with mascara without liner or trade dramatic shadows for neutrals/taupes that blend effortlessly with your skin tone.

Lilac Shadows

Pastels are in this spring!  Lilac looks beautiful on fair to medium skin tones.

Now that you’re armed with the Spring’s most popular beauty trends, it’s time to experiment!

Have fun beauties!

Hat’s On For Style!

If you’re like me the idea of the perfect hat seems like the Holy Grail of Fashion. Something we search for but when we finally find it what do we do with it? A hat can complement almost any ensemble but the key is what kind and just how do we get it up there without looking like we’re headed for a costume party dressed like a mime or Charlie Chaplin?  Or worse, about to solve crimes with other little old ladies?

There are many considerations when contemplating a chapeau, a capello, or sombrero.

Your head, your hat!

You may be tempted by a hat style you’ve seen on a celebrity you admire. They can be a great source of inspiration whether it’s Fergie or Audrey Hepburn or even Lady Gaga! But don’t just pick a hat based on celebrity fashion; pick a hat based on what looks good on you and what you have in your closet. Americans wear hats only occasionally so choose one you’ll wear often.

Triangles, circles or squares?

The shape of your face should influence your choice of hats. Angled brims work well with round or square faces. This choice reduces the big head look you can get with larger crowns. Earrings will also complement the look but avoid long dangly chandeliers unless you like the fringed lampshade look. Stay clear of high or tall hats if you have a wide face however, you can try on hats with wider brims to balance your look. If you’re fortunate to have an oval face you can try almost any hat and look great. There’s just something about the symmetry of the oval that doesn’t conflict with most shapes and styles. Darn those oval faced girls! As with other face shapes a cute earring and a great lipstick always add pizzazz!

Pirates, Musketeers and Spies, oh my!

Tilting a hat will always enhance its look. Try several angles, back on the head or forward over the eyes and see it take on a new sass. Just make sure you’re not constantly moving your head around like a bobble head just to drive. No hat can fix that image. A hat leaning left or right can give that rakish, devil-may-care bit of attitude evoking Katherine Hepburn or even better, Lauren Bacall at her finest. So if at first you don’t succeed give that hat a nudge.

Hat head!

There are few ways to avoid hat head, unless your hair is pulled tightly back and secured. So be prepared to wear it until you return home and can nest for the rest of the day. That doesn’t mean your hair won’t play a part in hat style. A pulled back chignon or ponytail will complement a hat and show off those earrings. Wisps of curly bangs under a soft beret is oh so French and jolie! Tuck longer hair behind your ears and immediately eliminate that heavy, paparazzi-avoiding look.

Sassy meets Style!

Hats are a fabulous way to show style and distinguish yourself from the crowd. Whether it’s a beret, a fedora, cloche or newsboy, a hat will give you courage, enhance your wardrobe, start a conversation and get you noticed! Wear it with pride and you’ll never go wrong.

Live the Life You Deserve in 2012 with a Career in Beauty!

We all make New Year’s resolutions to do better professionally, to get a better job, a promotion and to make more money, but all too often we fail to harness these dreams to a workable plan of action.

The world of work is no longer as secure as it once was; lifetime job security is gone, replaced by most Americans changing jobs about every four years. The reality is that your current, or next, job is just a stop along the way. You can regain control of your life by making 2012 the year you replace blind loyalty to the corporation with loyalty to your own long-term economic survival. Make this the year you commit to enlightened self-interest, to understanding and applying practical the career management strategies that will put security and fulfillment in your life.

Live up to your dreams. Most people sacrifice the struggle for a life of fulfillment to the whims of instant gratification. The constant din of consumerism takes your focus away from the long term, and encourages you to live up to your income and not up to your dreams. The result is all too often that you get into debt way over your head, and trapped like a mouse on a paddle wheel; you are too busy running in place to even think about strategies for moving forward.

You live in a world that encourages you to demand instant gratification, “have it all and have it now, life is tough and you are special, you owe it to yourself!” Don’t let yearnings for instant gratification and temporary status derail the work you know it requires to bring your life’s dreams to reality. This year, commit to of the pursuit of plans that will bring your dreams to life.

Turn your dreams into practical goals that you can work towards, because whatever you want in life, you can probably achieve it, if you work hard and smart enough. Break those goals down into smaller and then smaller steps, until there is always some small action that, taken today, will take you one step closer to manifesting those goals that give your life meaning.

Today’s beauty professional is a member of the ever-expanding, ever-changing, ever-fascinating beauty industry.  If you are innovative and ambitious, there is no limit to your potential.  No other industry has such a constant demand for qualified, creative, well-trained graduates.  None offers such bright opportunities for an individual to start a personal business and work toward financial independence. Your artistic skills and training give you the potential of changing people’s lives by making them look good and feel beautiful, possibly for the first time.

With the right training, you could begin a career in the fashion industry as a makeup artist or stylist.  You can choose to work behind the scenes in a movie, on a Broadway play, at a fashion show or perhaps as a photo makeup artist/stylist.  Perhaps your dream is to own your own salon or spa one day or become an instructor and inspire others to enter into the beauty business.  Reach for the stars, because whatever your dream may be, a career in beauty can take you there!

Information and insight from  Beauty Changes Lives

Is the Cosmetology Industry for You?

Why Cosmetology?

One of the things I have always loved about the beauty industry, even as a small child was the “magic” that was performed in the chair.  As a professional in the beauty industry we have the power to change a person’s life just by making them look good and feel better about themselves.  We can transform someone’s bad day with just a kind word, an empathetic ear or a great scalp massage at the shampoo bowl.  In today’s world, being able to affect another person in such a positive way means a lot.  Not only do you get to change someone’s appearance, impact them in a positive way and have a great time doing it, you get paid!  The National average salary for salon professionals NOT including tips is…..

Cosmetologist = $38,843
Hair Colorist = $46,402
Massage therapist = $33,738
Nail Technician = $33,148
Skin care/Esthetician = $40,126

(Statistics provided by the NACCAS Job Demand Survey)

Remember, this is NOT INCLUDING TIPS.  Typically your gratuity will make up to 50% of your income!  Add that to your salary and you have yourself a pretty lucrative career.  For those who are serious professionals the income potential is limitless.

Another great aspect of the Cosmetology Industry is the freedom you can experience as your own boss.  Set your own schedule and choose what services you offer, who wouldn’t want to have creative control?

It’s not just about being behind the chair.  Perhaps you see yourself as a Salon Owner, Platform Artist, Distributor Sales Consultant, Runway Makeup and Hair Artist or an Instructor.  The opportunities as well as your income are unlimited.  The only person who will limit you is yourself.

Money magazine states that Cosmetology is one of the fastest growing professions.  Don’t miss your opportunity for a lifetime of happiness with a career you will love!  The first step is to change your own life by enrolling in Cosmetology School.  The second step of changing the lives of others will come soon after!
